Script Your "No"

Imagine a specific situation in which someone offers you a drink or invites you to an event where there will be drinking. Then write a script in which you stay in control of the situation and resist pressure to drink.

The person may not take "no" for an answer the first few times, so write a series of firm responses, and keep them short, clear, and simple. Here are some sample responses from the module:

  • No, thank you
  • No, thanks, I don't want to
  • You know, I'm (cutting back/not drinking) now (to get healthier/to take care of myself/because my doctor said to). I'd really appreciate it if you'd help me out.
